NAME,
he carries the name of FENRIR ANDREAS VÁNAGANDUR, all of which are names he was either given or earned over the course of his life. he was originally known only as ANDREAS which is a Greek name meaning “Man” and was given to him by his caretakers simply so they’d have something to designate him by. FENRIR was a name given to him by his battalion commander early in his military career after seeing his ferocious behavior on the battlefield which reminded him of the tales of the terrible wolf in Norse mythology whose howl was said to recognize the beginning of Ragnarok. his last name VÁNAGANDUR was awarded to him originally as a title, and meant “monster of the river Ván” after his tremendous (and some would say monstrous) efforts in a fight against the Aesir on the banks of a river bordering the ruins of the Kingdom of Valentine and Fairy Land. he has garnered other such titles from his time on the fronts of the Cauldron War, such as ROCK SOLID which was given to him in reference to his solid presence in the battlefield, and how no Aesir warrior could move him. outside of more formal settings, and in the presence of his friends and fellow bodyguards as well as the Princess Feyette, he prefers to be called FEN.
AGE,
being a pureblood elf, it should come as no surprise that despite his youthful appearance fenrir is actually ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY-THREE. most would agree that he is now in the prime of his life, having surpassed the midway segment of his lifespan, and looks none the worse for it. his age marks him as the oldest of the trio of Unicorn Knights guarding the Princess, as well as being older than the Princess herself. being the most senior has not gained him an additional attention or responsibility however, and certainly no respect from the others, which suits him just fine. physically he only appears to be in his EARLY TWENTIES.
GENDER,
fenrir is most definitively MALE, as noted by his impressive physique and rugged good looks. he is thankfully immune to any attempts to be “beautified” by the Princess, unlike Tyr whose slightly feminine features allow him a passing grade as a female.
ORIENTATION,
if one were to ask about, especially to those female members of the castle’s staff, they would all assure you that fenrir is in fact HETEROSEXUAL having either seen or been on the receiving end of one of his many failed attempts at flirting. where most people seem to keep their inclination towards others a secret, fenrir is quite the opposite, boldly making it known that he has an interest in a certain individual. this could be taken as an admirable quality of his, if it weren’t for the fact that he seems to show an interest in almost every female he encounters.
RACE,
there is a bit of ambiguity as to fenrir’s claim to being a PURE-BLOOD ELF as his father is unknown to him, and his mother was sadly taken from him during childbirth (he was a natural birth, rather than simply being formed from phozons like other elves). still, the idea of his being a pure-blood is supported by the fact that he hasn’t begun to wither in old age like most half-elves around his age would. having been orphaned from the start, fenrir was put under the care of a foster-family in Ringford. upon reaching the age when he could join with his nation’s military, fen moved out of his foster home to the Vanir barracks, not wishing to impose further upon the family that had sheltered him for so long. he then went on to enjoy a prominent career as a UNICORN KNIGHT, and won great military acclaim on the front lines of the Cauldron War. he was later recalled to Ringford and was made a BODYGUARD to the Princess Feyette.
ALLIANCE,
as a veteran of the Cauldron War, as well as personal bodyguard to the Princess, it only makes sense that fenrir would swear allegiance to the VANIR. having seen the evils of the Aesir up close, fenrir knows they cannot be allowed to win as they seek to conquer the entire world in the name of the Raganival Empire. while motivated to fight and defend his country, having become the Princess’s bodyguard has presented fen with more personal reasons to fight against the Aesir. in order to protect the friendship he’s found in his comrades, as well as the Princess herself, fenrir is willing to put life on the line against any forces that would work against them be they from inside the kingdom our from beyond it’s borders.

+POSITIVE,
off the battlefield fenrir is a very KIND individual. he fits the idea of a gentle giant, as he’s always CHEERFUL and BOISTEROUS and loves to have fun. he is COURAGEOUS to the point of seeming foolhardy, and has supreme CONFIDENCE not only in himself, but in his friends as well. for the most part he is a very RELAXED individual, preferring not to get worked up over the little things which often makes him the most calm of all Feyette’s Knights as he isn’t constantly worrying over her every action. he has a METHODICAL way of looking at things, which many people often mistake as him being somewhat dim-witted, when he is in fact quite intelligent and simply prefers to work through every situation before coming to a final result. he is LOYAL to a fault, and cares deeply for his friends and his Princess, and would do anything for them given the chance.
-NEGATIVE,
truthfully fenrir is a BAD INFLUENCE on others, especially the Princess as he often encourages her many antics, and can more times than not be found to be a willing accomplice in her schemes. he’s also a bit of a FLIRT, albeit a bad one. his overly relaxed nature often times gets him in trouble with the other Knights, and is usually mistaken for LAZINESS on his part. many of the dwarves consider him RUTHLESS due to his constantly demanding new swords from them for his use. he has also been called QUIRKY as well as downright ANNOYING by his teammates for his insistence on making trouble and aiding the Princess, as well as his strange fetish for nibbling on others appendages. in battle he can become somewhat IRRATIONAL and FULL OF HIMSELF which tends to put him and others in danger unintentionally.
STRENGTHS,
• BRAWN
a single glance at fenrir is all that’s needed to see that the guy is built like a brick wall. while being physically strong is a requirement for a Unicorn Knight so as to be able to wield the giant lances they use, fenrir’s own muscle structure far surpasses that of whats needed as he is easily able to swing a lance with only one hand. many can attest to his ferocious strength, having seen him wade out into the battlefield using only his bare hands to break bones, bash skulls, and snap swords in half. of course being so strong has it’s downsides as well, as he often finds himself being used as a pack mule of sorts to lug around heavy equipment, or the many belongings of a certain Princess. on the bright side, his strength makes it easy to pick up both týr and skaði and hang them from a lamp or lock them in a closet until they’re done nagging him. • BLADE MASTERY
as one of fenrir’s old battalion mates once said “I’d call fenrir a virtuoso with a blade, but that’d be an insult to other sword masters. He’s more like the mad genius of the sword wielding world.” in a nutshell, fen is a master of the sword-any sword, regardless of it’s size or shape, make or brand. his skill is so great that it more than makes up for his inability to use a lance. coupled with his immense strength, fen becomes a windmill of death out on the battlefield, smashing through enemies with his zweihander and impaling others with thrown swords either ripped from the hands of his enemies or pulled from the large weapons case on his back. • SUPER SENSE OF SMELL
a most peculiar skill, yet still worth noting, is that fenrir was born with a very acute sense of smell almost akin to that of a dog’s. with it he can track the particular scent of a person for miles, assuming heavy rains or other natural phenomena don’t wash it away. this also allows him to identify people without having to see them based simply off their scent, though he can only do this if he is well acquainted with their smell. having spent so much time with them, he is easily able to recognize the scents of týr, skaði, and feyette, and could probably track them clear across the world heavy rains or not. • TOLERANCE
with his stout body and constitution fenrir has an almost abnormal tolerance to potential poisons, such as alcohol. taking advantage of this he immediately started working up an resistance to various poisons upon his return to Ringford and placement as bodyguard. there was of course a reason to this, other than making him even tougher to kill then he already is. having since worked up such resistances, he has taken over as the princess’s taste-tester in addition to his bodyguard duties. • ESCAPE ARTIST
while Princess Feyette is quite the accomplished escapist, she wouldn’t be half as good if not for fenrir’s help. while his two companions are intent on keeping an eye on the Princess at all times, fenrir feels that a girl her age deserves some time alone, away from the eyes of the court and everyone else. that said, fenrir is often her accomplice in such escapes, acting the decoy so that she may slip away unnoticed, or covering for her and her whereabouts. sure it gets him in trouble with týr and skaði, as well as higher ranking officers, but he still finds it worthwhile in the end.
WEAKNESSES,
• SUPER SENSE OF SMELL
while having such a developed sense of smell is a highly helpful ability, it also has it’s downsides. fenrir is extremely sensitive to all smells, and smelling foul and horrid scents has a much more powerful effect on him then others. when faced with something particularly putrid, fenrir’s capabilities become dulled, slowing his reactions, making it hard to think, and making him rather irritable to boot. when faced with cases of extremely horrible smells fenrir can become completely incapacitated, even passing out simply to save himself from the horror of such a smell. • SLOW
because of fenrir’s methodical nature and way of thinking, he has a tendency to reach the same conclusions as others at a much slower pace. it’s not to say that he’s stupid in any way, shape, or form, he simply requires more time to think things through. this does of course make for rather awkward moments at times, especially when he exclaims his latest realization, only to find that everyone else around him had come to the exact same conclusion a few minutes before hand. • FAMILY
having grown up an orphan, fenrir is slightly obsessed with the idea of “family.” while he did live with a wonderful foster family until he was old enough to join the Vanir forces, he never quite felt like he fit in there, as his entire stay was filled with a feeling of guilt for imposing on such a generous couple for so long. however since meeting týr, skaði, and princess feyette, fen feels he has come to better understand what that feeling is like, and is desperate to do whatever he can to keep that feeling alive. should someone want to, they could quite easily manipulate his love for his friends for their own evil means. • PRINCESS FEYETTE
while it could be said that each of feyette’s bodyguards holds a certain amount of respect and admiration for the Princess, fenrir’s case is decidedly more so. unlike týr and skaði, fenrir has none of their ability to resist feyette’s charms, and is therefore that much easier to manipulate in response. the princess takes advantage of this of course, knowing that while her pleas might fail against týr or skaði, fenrir is likely to crumble beneath her desperate gaze and heartfelt distress, and will even go so far as to help her where the others would seek to impede her. • MAGICALLY INEPT
unlike týr and skaði, who both hold a certain degree of skill in the use of magic, fenrir is completely incapable of using such things. while he can generate magic energy for use, he cannot perform incantations or other standard forms of magic. at best he can simply gather magic together in great swaths and fling it at enemies in what one could barely call a “magical” attack.
LIKES,
fenrir likes taking it easy, eating, drinking, fighting, requisitioning new swords from the dwarves, friends and family, týr’s fingers, skaði’s toes, feyette’s hair, flirting, women, flirting with women, summer weather, thunderstorms, lightning, yelling, being tall, new and interesting smells, perfumes, weapons in general, making things up as he goes, helping the princess, getting drunk, training, sparring, mock battles, the plain truth, playing devil’s advocate from time to time, among other things.
DISLIKES,
fenrir dislikes nagging, getting caught, horrible smells, hangovers, shoddy workmanship, broken swords, being alone, people taller than him, týr when he’s drunk, working to much, týr and skaði’s constant worrying, politics, halja, tales of the Netherworld, pessimism, disloyalty, cowardice, pointless animosity, the aesir forces, odin, psyphers, the idea of losing his friends, ridiculously cold weather, his inability to use magic, among other things.
SECRETS,
• TRUE NAME
just as every other fairy and elf in the kingdom has a secret name to announce upon their death, so to does fenrir. his is DVALINN otherwise known as “the slumbering one”. in mythology dvalinn is one of the four harts, or stags said to live among the upper boughs of the tree yggdrasil, which shows a certain amount of symbolism (or irony depending on how one looks at it) in fenrir’s position as the princess’s bodyguard. • HEIGHT OBSESSED
while not immediately apparent, fenrir has a bit of a complex about height, specifically concerning people taller than him. having long towered over most of the fairy race for years, it is a rare occurrence for fenrir to find anyone taller than himself, one which he does not enjoy in the least. when confronted with such individuals fenrir can become antagonistic and irrational, as if trying to prove that their difference in height does not make the taller individual better than himself. thankfully there are very few people taller than fenrir so this quirk of his is hardly ever seen. • THINKS HIS FRIENDS WOULD TASTE GOOD
perhaps the strangest thing about fenrir is his weird penchant for nibbling on the appendages of his friends. with týr it is his fingers, with skaði her toes, and with feyette it is the princess’s unruly mess of hair. just why he does so is unknown, and when asked he can do no more than shrug in response. he has however developed a theory which pins everything on his advanced sense of smell. having smelled each of his friends everyday for such a long time, fenrir has come to associate their individual scents with certain foods. feyette’s is that of fruits or vegetables, týr’s is that of roasted fowl, and skaði’s both the cool sweetness of wine and frozen desserts.
INVENTORY,
• LAEVATEIN-ZWEIHANDER
ah yes, Laevatein, fenrir’s pride and joy. Laevatein is a zweihander (though only in the loosest sense of the term) specially made to endure under the ravages of battle and fenrir’s destructive strength. the blade itself is long, nearly four feet, made from specially tempered steel to withstand fenrir’s massive strength. the hilt and pommel add another foot to the blade, and were forged from a special kind of black steel, inlaid with silver lending an otherwise ugly and destructive sword a certain amount of beauty. while most large swords like his are made to crush rather than cut, Laevatein was made in mind to be as durable as possible, and has retained it’s razor sharp edge through constant attention on fenrir’s part and the impressive forging techniques to make the weapon. • LEGION-WEAPONS CASE
it’s hard being the Hulk in the midst of other Unicorn Knights. :c fenrir, being the humongous muscle bound freak that he is often has trouble that other Unicorn Knights don’t, namely he breaks swords. often. in large quantities. it’s not his fault those useless dwarves can’t make rapier’s strong that they don’t snap in half every time he uses one. or any sword for that matter, other than his zweihander. for this reason fen has Legion, which isn’t really a weapon at all but is in fact two large cases made to carry a bundle of standard quality swords. each case carries twenty-four swords each, for a total of forty-eight swords. each sword within these cases is a single-edged katana blade of varying qualities which fenrir can make use of in multiple ways, such close-quarters combat where swinging his zweihander would be dangerous as he might hit his allies. he can also use them in more unconventional methods, such as projectiles for long ranged attacks, or as means of transport, such as steps to scale a wall with.
yeah, I totally ripped off this idea from Mifune, so sue me. XD • MASQUERADE-LANTERN SHIELD
Masquerade is one of the few pieces of equipment fenrir owns that he’s actually grateful to the dwarves for having made. at first glance it appears to be a buckler, strangely attached to fenrir’s arm with a metal gauntlet that is part of the the shield itself rather than the usual set of leather straps. it’s not this gauntlet that makes Masquerade special though, but the blade hidden in between the shield and the gauntlet. this blade is thirty centimeters long (the same length as the shield), and when not in use can be tucked safely away in it’s hidden sheath behind the shield. triggering the special mechanism inside though will cause the blade to spring forth and lock into position allowing Masquerade to be used for both offense and defense, and making it an excellent surprise weapon to help change the tide of battle. • FLOWER AMULET-GOOD LUCK CHARM
just like týr and skaði, upon meeting the princess for the very first time fenrir received a good luck charm in the shape of a five pointed flower. it was apparently made from the crystallized petals of the tierce lumin-a-something or other flower, which is apparently a big deal since these flowers are extremely hard to raise or something. fenrir isn’t that knowledgable about flowers. still, it doesn’t take a skilled botanist to appreciate a gift like that, and after getting the flower incased in a coat of silver and glass, fenrir now wears it around his neck at all times. his charm is a light tan color.
SLEIGHTS,
• 1000 FACES
okay it’s not really a thousand, more like forty-eight, since this sleight uses all of fenrir’s Legion blades. to begin fenrir will throw all of his swords into the air, allowing them to rain down around him skewering those unlucky enough to be caught beneath. alternatively if fenrir is already placed somewhere high, he can simply throw the swords down making for a more precise attack pattern and placement of swords. after dealing out all of his blades fenrir is then in a position to use one of the different “styles” he’s developed when using these blades.
• PATHFINDER-Pathfinder is a battle style based around mobility and disorientation, something which seems surprising considering fenrir’s size and usual fighting style (which basically consists of running straight foreword smashing anything in his way). when in use fenrir will only use one blade to attack with, leaving his other hand free to grab onto those swords he needs to use for enhanced mobility. by using the swords positioned around him, fenrir can enhance his maneuverability by grabbing onto swords to help change direction suddenly, helping to make his moves unpredictable and hard to follow. he can also use the swords themselves to create “paths” along which he can run, moving from one blade to another, or by jumping along the tops of the pommels . the former holds some risk however as fenrir is a heavy guy, even more so when in full armor, so there is always a chance he may break a sword while jumping on them. or he may just slip off altogether like a complete klutz.
• SWORDBREAKER-Swordbreaker is a fighting style designed to, well, break swords. it is a brute force style of fighting based where fenrir will simply bash away until either his enemy dies, his own swords break, or the swords of his enemies shatter allowing him an easy kill. truth be told this barely counts as a style of fighting, since it’s basically fenrir’s “default” way of fighting either with Legion blades or with his zweihander, but is still worth noting nonetheless.
• STEEL FANG-Steel Fang is the last of fenrir’s fighting styles, and is most effective at mid to long range. while being used, fenrir will usually keep his blades within their cases rather then spread them out on the field like he would before using the other two-either that or he will try to position himself near clusters of swords so as to be most effective. in a nutshell, this style involves fenrir throwing his swords at enemies in order to impale them, leaving them either dead or incapacitated. • FLAIR
flair is a physical sleight that focuses on dealing a large amount of damage on a single target. when used fenrir will unleash a furry of blows on his opponent before making a powerful upward swing to knock them into the air, whereupon he will jump up behind them and hit them again sending them still higher into the air. he will then wait on the ground until the have come back down into range before jumping up again and performing a windmill attack with his blade, sending them flying towards the ground with the combined force of gravity and his strike to deal massive damage to their entire body. at the end of all this fenrir tends to choose to land on top of his foe and strike an impressive pose, to add psychological damage to the already extreme physical damage. and because it makes him look cool • SILVERSUN INFLUENCE
silversun influence is the only “magical” based sleight in fenrir’s repertoire. it consists mainly of gathering together magical energy along the edge of his sword, which he then swings towards a enemy, or group of enemies, launching a massive shockwave of magical energy in that direction. while not particularly “elegant” as far as normal magic usage is concerned, silversun influence is useful for canceling out other magical attacks, or for busting through heavy defenses or thick swarms of enemies. this sleight gained its name from it’s peculiar silver hue when used, said to almost look like solidified moonlight. requires a cool down period between uses.
